Shangri-La's Villingili Resort and Spa, Maldives, offers themed wedding blessing ceremonies in five different locations

Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa, Maldives offers wedding blessing ceremonies with a choice of six cultural themes and five exotic locations, including underwater.  The full-day experience also includes a romantic dinner, a spa ritual, a professional photograph session and a wedding planner.  The packages are available year-round.

Set on a three-kilometre-long private island surrounded by a vibrant house reef, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa, Maldives offers unusual locations for wedding ceremonies.  Adrenalin seekers can dive in the lagoon to exchange their vows on waterproof boards, while sea-lovers could choose a luxury sailing yacht as their wedding venue.  Couples can also celebrate with a century-old banyan tree as a backdrop, under a pavilion facing the ocean or barefoot on the beach.  Guests can choose among six cultural themes – Chinese, Western, Japanese, Indian, Arabic and Maldivian – to personalise the ceremony.

“Thanks to the event organiser’s care and flexibility, the ceremony was exactly the way I wanted it,” said Mr. Mitesh after surprising his wife with a Western blessing ceremony in the resort’s wedding pavilion.  “The flower decoration, the stunning views of the ocean, the sound of the waves; this was a dream come true for my wife, everything she had ever wanted.”

The Wedding Blessing Ceremony packages start at US$2,700 and include for two persons: 
  • A flower-filled wedding ceremony set-up
  • A ceremony master to conduct the blessing in the couple’s preferred language, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony with champagne
  • Petal shower, bridal bouquet and head flower piece
  • A wedding planner
  • A candlelit dinner in a choice of romantic locations
  • A two-hour lifestyle photograph session
  • A 90-minute Kandu Boli Ritual at CHI, The Spa
  • In-villa floral bath ceremony and bed decoration
  • Wedding certificate and gift
Additional options are available, including wedding gown rental, videography, and hair and make-up services.  Guests should note that the wedding ceremonies in the Maldives are not legally binding.
