Honeymoon in Luxury in an Ethical Crafted Tent in Africa

These tents in southern Tanzania make a beautiful location to start married life. Why not treat yourself and honeymoon in style!

Situated within an open palm forest on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, the Selous Safari Camp’s 13 tented suites are dotted around the perimeter in absolute seclusion, each with their own private verandah, offering a unique view over the water. Each one is constructed from natural wood and natural canvas, complimenting their natural setting. Furnished in traditional style, the suites offer ornate furniture, a grand, eight-foot wide bed and beautiful bathroom features, including an oversized brass sink and a star shower complete with locally-produced toiletries - providing an exhilarating ‘wild washing’ experience!

While the suites hark back to the classic, ‘old safari’ style, they retain a twist of real Africa from the traditional Tanzanian throws, rugs and fabrics, and the little details – woven baskets and ornamental pieces made of innovative materials such as scrap metal, by local craftsmen and nearby charitable organisations, including a metal sculpture project called the Wonder Workshop which employs adult polio victims, and Womencraft.org – an organisation which creates woven baskets. As well as adorning the suites, a selection of pieces can be bought at the camp shop, with the funds going straight back to fund the projects.

For those seeking the ultimate African wilderness, the Selous Safari Camp’s sister property Jongomero Camp, is situated on the banks of a seasonal sand river in the heart of the Ruaha National Park. Tucked away in shady woodland, the camp’s eight tented suites are on raised wooden platforms under traditional thatched roofs, which encompass a spacious private verandah from which elephant and other amazing wildlife can be spotted. These beautiful suites are constructed using dhow boat wood, taken from wrecks on the Tanzanian coast.
